How about solo over changes of a cycle of #5 starting on Cmin.
And then proceed to a cycle of b3, this time approach it starting from D phrygian.
Means u play the phrygian scale applying cycle of b3, starting from D phrygian. Got IT??? *NO!!!!!!!!!*
Then when u finally get em' under your fingers...
Do the following:-
For each of the above exercises, after playing two scales, play the proceeding scale 1/2 step higher or lower, then proceed to another two scales *wait wait, let me understand the previous paragraph first*... etc etc
These are finger calisthenics *finger cali...what?!!* which build finger strength and you get to work your chops at the same time.
Remember... try to create melodic fragments to link it to the subsequent scales.

There are numerous combinations to approach playing outside the conventional method. What i showed you are an approach towards playing against a single minor chord over many bars (e.g SO WHAT, IMPRESSION) and approach to playing over dominant chords.
For a start, approach the dominant chords by playing the above-mentioned method starting with the perfect fifth note of the dominant chord. (e.g G7 - start with D note, C7 - start with G note etc etc) *!@*^#*&@^#@&*#^@&*#^@&#^&*^!&#^!*
